Master's Thesis, Part III of III

Part III of this series is all about how to prevent the virus from spreading. Here we delve into some tricky territory, including the information about Cervarix and Gardasil, the two vaccines for women approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The controversies surrounding these vaccines, especially Gardasil because it was approved and became available first, are described briefly here. There are a lot more questions and few solid answers about HPV, but I talk about that in the video as well.

Master's Thesis, Part II of III

This video describes what HPV is, what causes it, and how it spreads. This section of the story also delves into misconceptions about the virus, including the fact that it is not deadly (as long as it is detected and checked on a regular basis), and how hard it is to really test for the virus. It is essential to know what a virus is and how it spreads before delving into how to prevent it, although as you will see, HPV is not one of those viruses whose information is cut and dry like other STIs.

Master's Thesis, Part I of III

This video is the introduction to all three sections, and a brief (but fun) history of contraception and STI awareness in general. I use the term "STI", as in sexually-transmitted infection, because I was told by Marcus Schwarz (a support group coordinator, who you will meet in Part II of this series) that "STI" is a more politically correct term than "STD".

I have included interviews here with Lisa Spinelli, who has HPV and wrote an article about it for the Phoenix, Dr. Adina Nack, who also has HPV and wrote a book about it, "Damaged Goods?", and nurse practitioner Kate Adelstein of the Dimock Health Center in Roxbury, Massachusetts. The stand-up was shot by Giada Tridello, and all other references are noted in the video.

Maud Morgan Visual Arts Center Gathering

The following slide chronicles an event that took place at the Cambridge Arts Council headquarters on November 2, 2009. The CAC is in the process of the final stages of construction for the Maud Morgan Visual Arts Center, named after a Cambridge artist who is now deceased. It was a great event (with free food no less, music to a graduate student's ears!), and the slide should tell you the rest of the story.

Comic Con- Boston 2009

This is a story I shot on October 25, 2009, at the Back Bay Events Center in Boston. It was that day where Boston's Comic Con was wrapping up. I spoke with a lot of interesting people there. Among them, I met a woman in a Harley Quinn costume who was very interesting and very funny. As they say on "Law and Order", this is her story.
